Chowns Fabrication & Rigging was founded in 1989 in Skippack, Pennsylvania. Since then we have been servicing the structural steel, joist, decking and miscellaneous metals needs of the Delaware Valley.

The merit shop company has since grown to become one of the premier fabricators and erectors in the tri-state area.

Our in house drafting department can provide detailed steel drawings for approval utilizing the latest in CAD technology.

We have recently invested heavily in state of the art CNC beam drilling and angle punch lines to increase the speed and accuracy of our fabrication.

To complete the total structural package our seasoned erection crews can 'hang' the building quickly and efficiently.

Project sizes range from only a few tons to over 1000 tons of fabricated steel. From a simple rectangular strip mall to 100 foot long complex bow trusses, we have the expertise and facilities to accommodate any and all your structural steel fabrication and erection needs.

Some aspects of structural steel fabrication haven’t changed in decades, while other areas technology has made tremendous headway. In our fabrication shop, along with our AWS certified welders, we use Ficep 1001D CNC beam line which drills holes within 1/32 of an inch. Our Ficep Angle line punches the connecting clips with equal precision. We have also augmented our oxy acetylene cutting table with a CNC plasma table for thinner materials.

As you probably know an important part of any steel job are the drawings that will be used for shop fabrication and field erection. Working with plans from the architects and engineers, our in house experienced detailers can generate approval drawings quickly and accurately. After approval changes are made, if necessary, and the drawings are ready to ‘shop’. CNC files (Computerized Numeric Control) can be generated for fabrication on automated equipment. The drawing can then be sent to the customer by either mail or electronic media. On smaller projects or where an engineer isn’t involved we can have the drawings checked and sealed by a registered engineer.

Our drafting department is using Tekla's X Steel, perhaps the most comprehensive CAD steel software available. We have not only made a commitment to quality by using X Steel but continually upgrading as the latest versions become available.
